There is nothing we love more than a celebrity who is willing to put his money where his mouth is, especially when the cause is a noble one. Leonardo DiCaprio makes headlines for being a serial-dater of supermodels, but while he has yet to commit to a long-term partner, Leo’s commitment to protecting our planet is absolute and unquestionable.
On January 19, ‘The Revenant’ star addressed a packed house of global dignitaries at the World Economic Forum’s Crystal Awards in Davos, Switzerland — and not only did he eloquently mobilise and inspire others, he made a significant donation to the cause as well. Pledging a further $15 million to help preserve the planet’s natural resources via his Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation (LDF), the actor said, “Over the last decade, we have provided direct grants to support projects that have expanded protected areas on land and at sea, protecting iconic endangered species and empowered indigenous communities to fight back against corporate encroachment on their lands. But this number needs to grow and, with your help and partnership, it will. Generosity is the key to our future.”
Since its formation in 1998, the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation has awarded $30 million grants and supported more than 65 organisations that work towards preserving the planet’s natural resources. Paving the path for others to follow in support of the planet’s long-term prosperity, Leo’s bold moves make him a legend — with his work as a conservationist taking centre stage, his superlative contribution to cinema is just the tip of the iceberg!
